Vagas
Não é de
águas apenas e de ventos,
No rude som,
formada a voz do Oceano.
Em seu
clamor – ouço um clamor humano;
Em seu
lamento – todos os lamentos.
São de
náufragos mil estes acentos,
Estes
gemidos, este aiar insano;
Agarrados a
um mastro, ou tábua, ou pano,
Vejo-os
varridos de tufões violentos;
Vejo-os na
escuridão da noite, aflitos,
Bracejando,
ou já mortos e debruços,
Largados das
marés, em ermas plagas…
Ah! que são
deles estes surdos gritos,
Este rumor
de preces e soluços
E o choro de
saudades destas vagas!
